The Brief

Ocee International Group were in search of a new Managing Director (MD), to run the recently acquired Race Furniture business. The acquisition had brought new investment to Race Furniture and the objective was to significantly grow the business over the next three-to-four years and increase its international presence. Reporting to the Group CEO, the primary objective of the new MD was to lead the senior management team in achieving this growth. It was essential for the successful candidate to have previous industry experience in specialist high-end manufacturing and to have operated in an entrepreneurial, high growth environment. The commercial judgement, strategic thinking and drive for results were discussed as part of the briefing session, and the ability to quickly make an impact on performance. Being a private equity-backed business, we dedicated time and effort to meet with both the Group CEO and the Private Equity house to ensure that all requirements were fully understood from the offset.

This was a highly targeted search given the niche sector experience required. We adopted a direct approach to candidates through our dedicated research team and we spent time designing a full and detailed candidate briefing pack to ‘showcase’ the business and its vision for growth. This was an important part of our strategy since there was such a limited pool of potential candidates. We combined this with our network, database and digital advertising solution to generate a selection of appropriately experienced, qualified and diverse candidates. We undertook full competency-based interviews and successfully shortlisted candidates for client interviews. During the interview stages, we gathered feedback and managed candidate expectations, resulting in a successful offer and acceptance.
The Outcome

GRG Executive successfully recruited the Managing Director. As a result of our delivery pace and the candidate availability, the candidate, having met the client’s robust industry experience requirements, was able to start their employment within just two months from the date of commencement.
