The Brief

A automotive manufacturer were in search of a Chief Information Officer to help shape and transform their entire technology division across the global business. For this newly created position, the company sought a pragmatic individual with the knowledge and experience needed to sit on the board and navigate a complicated transformation project. This search was retained based on our successful track record with previous projects.

We worked closely with key stakeholders within the business to understand the requirements of the role and put together a candidate briefing document. The candidate pack detailed information about the business, the role and the opportunity for growth. Since the base location was open, we began by market mapping competitors across the globe to obtain a detailed insight into the talent pool and identify key candidates. Based on thorough research of competitors and the wider market, we reached out to our current network, candidates on LinkedIn and specialist job boards. We began the vetting process with a telephone pre-screen, followed by a face-to-face interview (held virtually, where applicable). In these interviews, we challenged candidates’ technical capabilities and applied competency-based interview techniques to determine each candidate’s suitability for the role. After a week, five candidates were submitted in the shortlist, with all five progressing through to client interviews. We supported each stage of the interview process and followed up to manage feedback. Not only did we manage the offer, acceptance and resignation process, but an additional challenge in this particular process was that the candidate was relocating from Switzerland to the UK for the appointment. We strive for excellence in the service that we provide, and so a member of our team was designated to support the candidate with the move to ensure a smooth transition.
The Outcome

GRG Executive search successfully recruited the CIO headhunted from a global competitor. The process took less than ten weeks from commencement through to offer and acceptance. As previously forementioned, our team supported the candidate in their move from Switzerland back to the UK, and we have been in regular contact ever since. The CIO has now been in the post for 18 months and has made a huge impact within the business. We have received nothing but positive feedback from both candidate and client and, since placing the CIO, we have also placed the CISO as well as the entire security team beneath them.
